Dr. Ray Underwood, Chairman of the Board
Dr. Ray, as he is known, is a South Florida native and founded Palm Beach Community Church in October of 1985. Before coming to start PBCC he served four churches in Tennessee from 1978-1985.
Dr. Ray is a pastor with vision, leadership and a heart for people. He and his wife, Jan, have been married for over 20 years and have three children, Raymond, Janelle, and Philip. He graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School, Crichton College (B.S.), Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Doctor of Missiology).
Dr. James Davis, Board Member
Almost thirty years’ of leadership experience with business proficiency in growth management through leadership development and short- and long-term strategic planning. Accomplishments include a proven track record of successful capital campaigns through key global relationship building that supports organizational stability and expansion. A recognized educational visionary that designs and develops innovative venues for the 21st century student to acquire his or her education, whether it is traditional or online.
Business expertise is enhanced by a lifetime commitment to serving others through Christian ministry, specific strengths and areas of proficiency include leadership development and training, team building, communications, problem-solving, organization assessments, and fund-raising.
Lead the development and fundraising activities for the Southeastern University, integrating individual component development initiatives into a program to ensure an integration of development functions University-wide. Developed and implemented strategies for the acquisition of major donors and served as the principal fundraiser for the organization, over the nine-year period overall donations totaled $36,158,612, an increase of 325% over the preceding nine year period.
With a mission to promote the principles of servant leadership worldwide, established The National Leadership Forum in 2007 at Southeastern University. The Forum provides people from all walks of life the opportunity to learn from world-renown religious and business leaders recognized for their commitment to Christian ethics and principles. Since its inception, the Forum has evolved to become one of the nation’s premier conferences on Christian leadership training.
Consults with educational organizations and churches across the country in developing goals and designing infrastructure and implementing internal strategies to achieve success through cohesive collaboration.
Don Hearing, Board Member
Mr. Hearing is owner and Vice President of Cotleur & Hearing Landscape Architects, Land Planners and Environmental Consultants with twenty-nine years of experience in this discipline. He has been practicing in south Florida since 1982.
Mr. Hearing serves as Vice President and Director of Cotleur & Hearing Investments, a real estate and development company. He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council of Palm Beach County. Additionally, Mr. Hearing is Director for the PGA Corridor Association and the Lighthouse Center for the Arts as well as a Board Member for the Borland Center for Community Enrichment.
In conjunction with his business interests, Mr. Hearing is actively involved in numerous charitable organizations which include Christ Fellowship Church, The Place and Villages of Hope, Teen Challenge of Florida and the West Jupiter Tutorial Center to name a few.
Mr. Hearing was raised in south Florida. He is a state of Florida registered landscape architect and honor graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree and is a Certified LEED Accredited Professional. In 2011, the American Institute of Architects recognized Mr. Hearing as Landscape Architect of the year for Palm Beach County. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Community Leader of the Year Award presented by the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hearing and his wife, Suzanne, reside in Jupiter, Florida along with their three daughters.
Gary Kendall, Secretary
Mr. Kendall was born and raised in Palm Beach County and is a retired home builder now working as a mortgage broker with Arch Mortgage in Palm Beach Gardens. He served on the board of directors of the Gold Coast Builders Association and was president of the 2000 member organization in 1987 and was elected Builder of the Year in 1988. He is also a life director of the Florida Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.
Mr. Kendall has also served on the board of directors of the Realtor Association of the Palm Beaches.
Mr. Kendall graduated from Florida Atlantic University and has a BA in Business Administration with a major in finance and a minor in real estate. He and his wife Dede reside in West Palm Beach and have two daughters and six grandchildren.

He has also been instrumental in developing strategic initiatives for Fortune 500 Companies. Joe has extensive experience coaching professionals and helping them get to the next level of success both personally and professionally.
Tim Miller, Treasurer
Timothy J. Miller is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of TBC Corporation. TBC Corporation is the largest vertically integrated independent tire dealer in the country with over 1,200 retail owned and franchised locations under the names of Tire Kingdom, Merchants, NTB and BigO Tires.
Miller is a native of Washington State where he began his career and has served on various non-profit board of directors including Goodwill Industries of the Northwest and the Borland center board since 2008.
Miller is a graduate of Washington State University and earned his MBA from the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. He and his wife Kristen reside in Jupiter Florida with his two daughters Sophie and Vivian.
Sherra Sewell, Board Member
Sherra Sewell is the owner of Sherra Sewell Marketing & Promotions. She is an active member of the community both professionally and through volunteer endeavors. As a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in journalism, Sherra has pursued a career in marketing, advertising and promotions that spans more than 30 years, including the last nine as a business owner. Sherra loves to help clients develop strategic marketing and communications plans, manage the resources to execute those plans and provide event planning services.
Since Sherra moved to this area nearly 14 years ago, she has developed a deep sense of commitment to the community and has been involved in a wide variety of local organizations and activities including ArtiGras, the North Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, the local chapter of the University of Tennessee Alumni Association, the Borland Center as a board member and the Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope, for which she is the incoming chairman of the board. Sherra’s mission is to use her creativity, communication skills and enthusiasm to bring people and ideas together to achieve positive outcomes. She and her husband, Albert, reside in Palm Beach Gardens and enjoy bicycling, anything that has to with the water, traveling, cooking and entertaining and spending time with family.

Raymond is the Director of Strategy and Acquisitions for TBC Corporation. TBC Corporation is the largest vertically integrated independent tire dealer in the country, with over 2,700 retail owned and franchised locations under the names of Tire Kingdom, Merchants, NTB, BigO Tires, Midas, and SpeeDee.
Underwood previously was the Managing Director of Operations and Business Development for a private equity firm. Prior to joining the private equity firm he was President of The Borland Center where he oversaw the construction of The Borland Center facility.
Raymond received his MBA from Florida Atlantic University and his BBA in Finance from Stetson University. He was raised in South Florida and he and his wife Jackie reside in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Heather Hogan, Executive Director
Heather began her career in Los Angeles, CA as an actress, studying black box theatre and performing in independent films and commercials. Her career led her to New York, NY where she worked in marketing and administration with Watch Hill Partners, a boutique investment bank.
After leaving New York, Heather started Event Jolie, an event coordination company which focused on community, social, and corporate events. In 2009, Heather was hired as the Director of Community Outreach at Palm Beach Community Church where she coordinated community events.
In September 2012, Heather signed on with The Borland Center as Executive Director.
Heather graduated with a bachelor's degree from The University of Georgia. She resides in Boca Raton with her son, Cole.
